    Hello CRR,
Let me tell you about the 1st East Coast multi day rock festival, the May,1968 Miami Pop Festival, at Gulfstream Park. Promoted by Ric O’Barry and Michael Lang, this 2 day festival was a premonition of things to come for Michael Lang as it rained on the second day of the festival and he lost his shirt. With a great line up of The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Chuck Berry, John Lee Hooker, Blue Cheer, Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention,Blues Image with Mike Pinera, and The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Michael Lang said of the MPF, “This is where the seeds of Woodstock were sown”. You can see my photographs of the festival at http://www.oldrockphoto.com/miamipop.html

      Nonsense.
The biggest rock festival of all time on US soil was the Summer Jam at Watkins Glen in 1973.

The Pink Floyd concert in Montreal at The Big O was +80,000.

There were concerts in NYC and Europe that were +1million.

      Source: Wikipedia

Some of these concerts were so big that extra speakers needed to be installed because the speed of sound wasn’t keeping up with the size of the crowd.

The greatest one day concert was Watkins Glen Summer Jam (July 28, 1973), featuring The Grateful Dead, The Band & The Allman Brothers Band. Over 600,000 swarmed the Finger Lakes Region of New York State for an incredible day of music. Whereas the Rolling Stones concert at Altamont was a disaster, and featured sub par music, Watkins Glen was much more successful. A few clips of Watkins Glen can be found on YouTube, and it is quite an impressive sight. Check it out!

I agree. Altamont is more infamous than famous. Watkins Glen is now unfortunately mostly forgotten despite at one point being in the Guiness Records book for largest concert attendance at the time.

I can see the person who made this list. Never been at a Glastonbury Festival UK. I been at 3x . And been to a lot in America. I am a photographer. Glastonbury is in it’s own league! Yes! Some festivals on your list should be where they are. But you have to add Glastonbury somewhere on your list! They sold all tickets in 34 minutes! Before they announced one band. This year. Think about that! Or ask the top bands what they think about Glastonbury! PEACE!
